Upside down quotation marks

Sorry to be late to the quotation marks party!!!

In Germany, we open quotations / dialogues with quotation marks at the bottom at the beginning and end with them at the top.

That is the standard.  I don't know how many other countries do this, but certainly they do in Austria and Switzerland as well.  Many have now adopted the version that is typical for the English / US because keyboards don't have the opening quotation marks Germans would need to write them in the traditional way.

A new Update in the Poisoned Pawn Production Diary.

Anyone want to guess who might have seen some of the new footage?
Someone that was super excited about the work/quality/progress being made?
A familiar voice you'll probably recognize.

OH....and NO it's not a BETA of the game.
(I think there is a misunderstanding of what BETA actually means--but I hope we can agree to cut him some slack)

Tex IS back....

(way back in 1988---and thanks to the Poisoned Pawns,  he's never looked better!)

Wow!

Watching that video makes you appreciate just how much time and hard work is put into this game.  All that time making just one little prop amoug hundreds that will likely only get a passing gaze.  It's great how you all are putting in the small things that make a great game.  Keep up the good work!  Looks great!

Oh, and I think that maybe might quite possibly be Chris Jones in the other video.  That or his evil twin.

I completely agree with the others. Your hard work is truly appreciated.

I do have one question, and it comes about because of the work I've done in SketchUp and AutoCAD over the years, and because I have no experience developing graphics for games. When I create multiples of something in SketchUp or AutoCAD, I normally create one copy that's complete, with all it's details. Then, I make as many duplicates of the finished copy as are needed. It appeared in the video that the author was working on all 3 'buttons' at the same time, doing much the same work on each of them.

Since I have no dilusions that the author is dumb enough to work on 3 copies when he doesn't need to, I'm wondering what is it about the software that, or creating graphics for video games in general, that required him to work on the 'buttons' separately? I have no special reason for asking; I'm just curious. Thanks.

Wow! Excellent and

Wow!

Excellent and beautiful work guys, you simply don't cease to amaze us.

Some random thoughts:
1) Get Chris Jones to do voiceovers :)
2) Finally I will get to see the animated fire in the fireplace (it is animated, right?)!
3) If there is any way to show you guys our love and support, let us know (donations included)

Controls

Awesome update as usual!  Unbelievably beautiful graphics!  I know this is probably premature, but what will the controls be like?  Will they be identical to Overseer or more like Tesla?

Thank you! - Well, the controls will be definitely more like modern 3d games, so more like Tesla (wasd or defined keys). About the interface we haven't decided yet.

Good to hear!  Personally, I

Good to hear!  Personally, I thought there were pros and cons for both Overseer/Tesla controls.  I didn't like it at first, but after playing it awhile, I grew to like the Tesla movement... mouse to turn, up/down arrow for forward/back and left/right arrow for strafing.  Is that what you're intending?  As far as inventory/travel/etc I'd actually probably prefer Overseer to Tesla but either one would be fine.  Again, awesome work guys!

Right! also there will be

Right! also there will be running, crouching, climbing and perhaps creeping. About the inventory and travel interface we haven't decided yet, but i think the inventory will be more classic with drag and drop rather then having combining slots. The travel map will be probably more like PD, like you have a sf map  and not only some images.

Awesome!  My only suggestion

Awesome!  My only suggestion is to give users a key binding option if there will be a bunch of movement options.  And love the idea of making some things feel a little old school!  UaKM & PD are still my favorites laugh

Well, sitting here, working

Well, sitting here, working on the game (as usual), taking a short break and reading some comments.

I want to thank you guys for all the nice words and even critics, anything will be truly a motivation for us. As Salk said, there could be more, as the hard working team deserves it, but every single one is a huge motivation to proceed and it seems to be, we're on the right way. I'm really proud of what we've achieved so far, cause none of us has ever done this before. We're learning every day and trying to improve things as best as we can. I think "Poisoned Pawn" will feel more like a new game, even if it is a remake, there are a lot of stuff planed that i'm very exited about to see it coming to live and hopefully you guys will like it.

So, thank you very much and keep on going as we'll do!

Thanks for the update!

The latest video and renderings look awesome!  Can I offer a bit of sarcasm?  Everything looks perfect.  The labels on the barrels, the pages of the note book, the tables.... you know...everything.  Usually, you'll see the edges of the labels lifting off with age, the pages in a note book having fine wrinkles or curling or dog earring on the pages of a notebook.  Tables have stains or nicks in them ect ect.  I do notice that some flaws are drawn into certain things but real life isn't that perfect.  Love your work guys.

What you see here isn't

What you see here isn't final, just to give you a quick info of the development stages. A lot of items are aged and had some scratches and rust and some models don't have yet. There will be some reworking process where we overwork some of that by overlaying a second layer. There are so many objects that we can not work on all of them at the same time, we try to set up the basic locations first and doing all the details step by step. So, no worries here, things will be reworked. wink

I was going to say that I

I was going to say that I doubt the video is showing totally finished items, although, I would be ecstatic with the quality I've already seen. The whole Poisoned Pawn team is pushing the envelope AFAIC. We must remember, this is a fan based, volunteer project, and what they've done to date is amazing. If they keep up this level of quality I can envision the final product comparing very favourably with any AAA title.

The video is awesome guys. I think it really helps people understand the incredible amount of work that's going into the project. Congrats to everyone.

Jim, We've received

Jim, We've received several... let's call them 'reminders' from the several PC hardware manufacturers that Tex games have a storied history of forcing the fanbase to upgrade their hardware.

I'm not saying that we'll have high specs- just that we like our thumbs where they are.

Did you know that after Big

Did you know that after Big Jim Slade is captured you can go back to Eve Clements and ask Eve about Big Jim Slade a second time for a different response?

As long as we are on the subject, after asking Eve about Big Jim Slade (but before his capture), she mentions that they checked the lodge but he was gone. Going back to the lodge will get you insta-killed by BJS. I always hated that :( . (also, is the lodge still accessible after he is captured? If so, maybe he gets out of prison to shoot you as well ;))

As always, a great pleasure to read the monthly update. Thanks!

Interesting. You may be onto something, but by default I don't think BJS gets you if you go back to the lodge because of the flags you're supposed to go through.

These are things that we are

These are things that we are looking out for as they are implemented into the game. There's one very early on with Sylvia where she has supposedly picked up her father's personal effects when you visit Eve but she acts as if she hasn't until after you visit Delores. Will add this one to the list to be on the look out for :)

Puzzle thoughts

The puzzle does seem to be hex but I'm pretty sure it does not translate to words since there are too many 0's in a row.  I also notice that there are several repeats of number sequences.  Does this appear somewhere in a Tex Murphy game?
