Pandora is the god, but the

Pandora is the god, but the hardest one. We'll see how "The Poisoned Pawn" will do and yes it would be a dream to continue. If it's UAKM or Pandora, we have to determine. Right now our focus is of course "The Poisoned Pawn" and this will keep us busy quite a while. And as Joel mentioned, BFG has the final word on this

I understand, wishful thinking for now smiley  But like every other fan here, I want as much Tex content as I can get!  Be it remakes, Tesla bonus/deluxe material not released, and hopefully another brand new game!

I wish we had a firm goal in

I wish we had a firm goal in that regard.  In some ways we are still just getting started.

We have made a lot of progress, but it seems to be one of those 80/20 things.  80% of your progress comes in the first 20% of your effort, and then it takes forever to knock out that last 20%.

We're remaking Pandora Directive? Holger, are you saying I need to map out all the narrative paths, conversation trees and endings for that game just as I did Overseer? Game over man, game over.

That's not official :) Just

That's not official :)

Just us bantering. But, if we have success with this project we'll of course do everything we can to at least revisit UKAM. Keeping in mind, Overseer/Poisoned Pawn is the imperative. That is, it's our goal to get that one right before we even dare think of the approach we could take for any other remakes. We'd also need CJ/AC's blessing too which we currently do not have.

Good point

I think plumgas has a good point. While I look forward to the remake of Overseer, I wouldn't be interested in a new version of PD as I am happy enough with (being able to play) the existing one after all these years.

I loved this

I loved this project!

About revamping UAKM and PD... Of course it would be great! Let's see how the team does with this. Overseer had to be a priority because of the technical issues trying to play it on modern machines.

Godspeed, Poisoned Pawns!

Rest assured IF UKAM and PD

Rest assured IF UKAM and PD receive the remake treatment somewhere down the line, the originals will still be available for purchase. We're not doing a revamp by Lucasfilm style removal of the originals. Those will always be there, kind of like the remastered versions of Monkey Island and the recent Grim Fandango - you can scale back to the original visuals mid game. While I don't believe it's possible for us to have a "switch" mode so the player can swing from old to new and back, you'll always have the older versions on your hard drive and available for purchase online.

IF remakes were made of UAKM

IF remakes were made of UAKM or PD, is the quality of the video clips set in stone or can they be improved?  Don't get me wrong, I love the nostalgic feel of blocky videos sometimes (really bring back my old pc days) but it'd be pretty cool to see Tex throw his gun out the window in hi-res laugh

In reference to the videos,

In reference to the videos, there are more possibilities then for Overseer:

As far as i know, the 'original' blue/black-screen (whatever they used) footage is available.

So, something similar to this could be possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M5I0qLf8RM - Reworking the backgrounds, as Bjorn did here.

Unfortunately that's not the case for Overseer, we can only remaster the videos itself to something near hd : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE43Hj4bbeo , but without improvements of the backgrounds cause the 'original' footage for this one is not available.

Nice!

From the point of view of a non-technical person, I think the remake of Overseer in that video was 100% on target for improved footage.  You can see clearly everything!  The ending for UAKM was excellent too, no doubt about it.

I know the level you all are looking to achieve, but do keep in mind the average person isn't going to always catch the tiny imperfections that is obvious to those cleaning up the archives.  Any improvement will be a success to us.  Keep up the great work and know it'll be enjoyed by all!

Hullo,first off, I really

Hullo,

first off, I really want to say how much I am looking forward to Poison Pawn... Overseer has always been the "ugly step-child" of the Tex Murphy saga to me (matter of opinion here, so please no raging reactions), so having it remade is a dream come true for me...

Now onto my real topic, the videos.

Just throwing out an idea here: rotoscoping the real-world parts of the videos so they can be used with an alpha-channel again and integrated with the new backgrounds?

I am aware of how time-consuming this would be (have done a similar thing for another fan project called MEHEM), so not sure how feasible this would be...

when I find the time I will sit down to do this for one of the Big Jim Slade shooting Tex vids, to see how feasible it might be...

Cheers on your efforts...

 A new production diary

A new production diary entry (Fortnightly) is up today!

I think the team making this game (The Poisoned Pawns) is really doing a great job!

Making a game can be difficult enough, but trying to coordinate the work across time zones??  ---Ouch!

It's exciting to see real time lighting, normal maps, and more.  Details that were absent from much of Tesla.

Ask Abouts? Inventory? Branching Dialog? Translations? ---Easy to overlook the myriad of little details being developed and coming together in the background, but they're essential components to a game.

So very cool...looking forward to the next issue!

Yup, got goosebumps watching that!

Way to go on the cleanup work!  Really nice.  And ditto to BFG for putting faith and trust in The Pawns.

That particular piece of music from Overseer just screams, "Hero at work, stand back or get run over at your own risk!"  Very fitting for a group of dedicated digital artist types.  (Is that the same as calling them borderline criminally insane masterminds?!  Because you almost have to be on a totally different level of understanding to do what you guys do.  And do it very well, I might add.)

Really nice work gentlemen. As Steve said, it's quite an accomplishment to coordinate the development of a game across time zones. Congratulations to everyone.

As far as the translation goes, I don't speak any language aside from English, but I've been told I'm pretty good at English grammar. If you need or want any assistance in that regard just PM me.

  Another Fortnightly

Another Fortnightly Update!

I've been enjoying all the Updates, and this one is pretty exciting to me.
Specifically my interest in the Inventory Demo

I think I've said before how much I look forward to what the team is doing...implementing things we didn't include in Tesla.

The Inventory Demo demonstrates that willingness to do more, and is something I've always wanted for Tex.

Pretty Cool.

Thanks, Steve!

It's early yet, so we hope to eventually deliver on all of the fun things we're trying.  Hopefully we're not setting the bar too high- for ourselves or anyone following development.

That being said, I'm very excited about the couple things we're expanding on.  Thanks for sharing the excitement!  BFG's support on this project means so much to us.

Well, you guys may thing it's

Well, you guys may think it's still early, but I think the inventory demo is pretty spectacular. The action is so smooth I can see myself spending way more time just playing with inventory items than would be strictly necessary to play the game. If this quality is indicative of what you're aiming to provide, the end result will be amazing.

The Sonny and Tex factoid was neat.  And what detail on that zippo!  I sure hope you guys don't ever get burn out before this is done.

Monthly reports make more sense too.   Just how much can you post in a couple of weeks without giving it all away or running out of stuff to say?  Besides, if something special comes up and you just can't sit still, Ancy Nancy, THAT'S what special notices are made for.  ;)

Konami is home to some of my

Konami is home to some of my favorite video game franchises of all time, I absolutely love Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid. Its sad that the people there now don't seem to have any real love for those games anymore and want to just churn out crud mobile games for now on really. Castlevania, like Mega Man, never really caught on well with 3D game style so it just went to flourish on handhelds. Now that handhelds have mostly 3D games now I think they don't know what to do with those game series anymore and just try to appeal to all the game bros out there. Btw, everyone should check out the Bloodstained Kickstarter since its basically another 2D Metroidvania Castlevania game.

My favorite Metal Gear game is Metal Gear Solid 2 since I played that one first and I got engrossed in it and finished it in the wee hours of the night and thought I dreamed it at first with how weird it was. Favorite Silent Hill is probably 3 since I've played that the most and liked the atmosphere in it more than the other ones. Favorite Castlevania is obviously Symphony of the Night, but Aria of Sorrow and its sequel Dawn of Sorrow may edge it out.

We just got to face that some companies are done working on their properties and got to make do with what we got.

'I have no more control of my company as does the king of England has over his country'.

I have to admit I hadn't

I have to admit I hadn't heard anything about Konami. I feel it's kind of expected though because, looking at the titles people have listed, I don't think I've ever played any Konami games, so I really haven't had any interest in the company. To be honest, I'd heard the name, but I don't think I could have told you what they did.

Wow!

That last update was a good read!  I look forward to your updates.  The inventory demo looked real neat as well.  The only thing I thought of is that everyone may not know how things in the inventory may be manipulated.  I would never have guessed that the base of the lighter could be seperated from main unit.  Will you include some type of indicator as to what you can do or will it be a discovery process since I imagine manipulating the individual items will have no bearing on the game?.

Casual mode will have some

Casual mode will have some kind of indication of where the interactivity is.

Also- I wouldn't assume 'no bearing on the game'.  I think the value of the inventory examination is both for 'non-gameplay based increased interactivity" (meaning looking at stuff just for fun) as well as gameplay.  Think of all the actions that Tex takes when you examine an inventory item- taking batteries from a radio being the classic example.  Now the player will be responsible for taking these actions- meaning gameplay.

When I first started reading

When I first started reading the update I was in a panic thinking that I missed some news about Konami somehow impacting BFG. I now understand what is being referenced after browsing the web for about a half an hour, but wow what a temporary scare it gave me. (Suggestion: Please include a link to an article that helps explain what not everyone may know.)

I've definitely heard of Konami, I know about Silent Hill, and I recall seeing some headlines about Kojima's departure and the Silent Hills cancellation, but I never read any of the articles since I have no interest in the company. After browsing their games (in Wikipedia) just now I'm pretty sure I've never played any of their stuff outside of a couple of extremely early arcade games (e.g. Frogger).

I admit I was also distressed since all those "Microsoft acquires Access" memories were dredged up. I really, really miss playing computer golf to this day. I can't afford nor do I have room for TruGolf.

The inventory demo was amazing, especially when the lighter was removed from the outer case. I "wow"-ed in real life.

Regarding moving to monthly updates, frankly I was shocked they were trying for fortnightly updates in the first place. Kudos for trying I guess, but I think monthly is much more reasonable and sustainable.
