Chapter 5 puzzle
I'm at the puzzle where you have to move the words around to form a message. I've been at it for about thirty minutes now and I'm going a bit mad. I swear I've tried every single combination I can think of, but nada happens. Okay, so I'm stuck. I don't want the answer, I just want to know if it's me or the game not registering correctly.
This is what I've tried:
Who is the doll (poll) prince or pawn (dawn)? Zip (nip) & dare source to hold back the pawn (dawn)
Okay, I'm pretty sure I've tried every single combination with the words in parenthesis and nothing happens.
So what is it, is it me? Am I just on the wrong track here? I don't see much for option here either, the words without parethesis around them I'm certain have to be the right words. I admit, the message doesn't seem to make much sense no matter how I put it, the words zip nor nip make much sense to me, but I don't see what else it could be!
Don't give me the answer. I'll figure it out. Just tell me if I'm doing something wrong. That's all I want to know. Thanks.
I just got through chapter 5. I solved this puzzle by accident and i'm afraid the message really didn't make much sense to me when i did ^^
Also i was quite surprised that one of the cards for the chapter had no puzzle attached. At first i thought it might be another glitch, but at the summary nothing was there.
I'm doing this puzzle right now actually. I felt the need to take a break from it.
So far I have:
WHO IS POLL/DOLL PRINCE OR PAWN/DAWN/DAMN
NIP/ZIP & DARE SOURCE TO HOLD BACK THE DAWN/PAWN?DAMN
Ok, just solved it! Man Jess's Father is a FREAK!
Best hint for this puzzle is indeed to use the dictionary, look beyond the letters that make up the damn, pawn and dawn combinations. The most obvious word in the puzzle may not be the word at all.
Puzzles seem to be harder as the game progresses. I can't figure this one out. What is it suppose to say? I need help. Thanks in advance.
I'm happy to help but I don't want to spoil the puzzle either.
CAUTION: HEAVY PUZZLE SPOILERS:
When mentioned earlier that the obvious word may not be the obvious word, I was referring to the word "dare". Using a dictionary, try to create new words my manipulating the letters that make up "dare".
I may sound stupid but I need more help, as I have tried all the combinations I could think of with the word dare. Non of them made sense and non of them worked.
I hope someone can give more help to this non native english speaker dumb. Thanks.
It's the first letter of the word that needs to be changed. ;-)
Thank you Joel and AC for the quick answer, this is a great community. I hope it continues to be as good as the Unofficial Tex Murphy site.
Now, I have 'Who is the doll prince or pawn? Zip & pare source to hold back the pawn' but there is still something wrong.
Can anyone tell me which word is wrong, please?
Zip is wrong. It should be a word that means to "bite"...
Ok, I'm pretty sure I've tried all the options so I must be doing something wrong. It isn't 'nid', 'nip', 'zid' or 'zip' right? I know I'm a little slow, to say the least, but once again, I need help.

It's nip. Perhaps you should be turning your '&' around? Highlight the section below to see the full answer.
WHO IS DOLL PRINCE OR PAWN
NIP & PARE SOURCE TO HOLD BACK THE DAWN DT
I must admit that even when translated (twice) I still have no idea what it's supposed to mean.
Big warning though
At the end of Chapter 5 is another Ouija board challenge. Do not quit the game while doing this. You cannot restart where you left off and you will need to start the game from the very beginning again if you do.

Ditto for the final puzzle of chapter 4, it seems... Is there no way to work around this? I don't know if I can gather the patience for a replay. Looks like I may have to though!
Yes, demonlawyer has discovered a flaw in the structure: if you exit out of the game in the middle of end-of-chapter puzzle, you get stuck in limbo.
We'll have this fixed soon. In the meantime, just don't exit out of the game in the middle of the puzzle!
P.S. Next game, we'll invite you all to beta test - you've turned up a couple of doozy bugs that we didn't find!
Davedavedave - if you play it through again it will take no time at all - if you remember most (or all) of the right things to click, and press the space bar during the cut scenes you will whizz through.
Also, it might serve as a recap on the story line, remember who was who, which will help to understand what goes on later.
AC, how about those who pre-order get to beta test it a week or two before?? :D

It's nip. Perhaps you should be turning your '&' around? Highlight the section below to see the full answer.
Yep, it was the darned "and" symbol that was stymieing my efforts.

We all get to beta test? Awesome!

Heh, when I first played through, that is what had me stumped. I though i must have it right, but couldn't seem to get it to work. Then I tried moving the &... I fel like such a boob. :)

Yup, the ampersand got us too. We were sure we had the correct words and eventually had to go looking on the net. I found a picture that someone took of the answer and it confirmed we had it right. After looking very closely we realized the ampersand was backwards.

This is just a tricky puzzle. There are a number of possible word combinations (as you're finding), and the fact that whoever wrote sounds borderline insane doesn't help!
However, once the message is correctly solved, there will be meaning to the words.
